Hacking the Humanities

I'm very pleased, honored, humbled, and all-around chuffed to hear that has won MLA's New Variorum Shakespeare Digital Challenge!

Many thanks to the committee, and to the various folks who gave it a quick look during the process of building it!

For THATCamp Prime V, we tried out having a hackathon on a dataset. One suggested dataset was the Cooper-Hewitt data on github. I tried out putting it into an Omeka site and seeing what possibilities were there.

April 28 and 29 was Transparency Camp 12 (TCamp), an unconference to gather journalists, technologists, activists, and others to work on ways to promote and work with openness in government. The 30th was a special hack day on the Voter Information Project. Turns out, I was over my head in that context and couldn't really contribute.

There was a renewed flurry of thinking and observing about the relationship between theory and DH, especially around the "less yack/more hack" approach to THATCamps. I'd like to pick up a bit on the comment that I left on "When DH Was In Vogue; or, THATCamp Theory" , and respond a little to Jean Bauer's "Who You Calling Untheoretical?".
